Roybal CHC Diabetes Management Program
Type 2 diabetes is becoming increasingly common, especially in minority populations. These are the individuals who often have the least access to affordable health care. To help reverse this inequity, LAC/USC opened a diabetes disease management program at the Roybal Comprehensive Health Center to provide high quality diabetes care to individuals living in East Los Angeles.
This center offers comprehensive care to patients who have diabetes but lack adequate health insurance to take care of their medical needs. At the center we draw all laboratory tests at your initial visit and results are ready within twenty minutes. While you are at the clinic you are evaluated by a diabetes educator as well as a diabetes specialist. A diabetes management plan is created for treating your diabetes and you will be followed by one of the centers highly trained diabetes nurse educators. Once a year (or more often, if needed) you will be checked by the diabetes physician, to make sure your diabetes treatment is on track.
You must be a patient in the LA County Healthcare System. For an appointment a referral is required from your primary care provider. If you live outside of East Los Angeles, you may be eligible for diabetes care in your local region. Programs exist around the following County facilities: Harbor, Olive View, High Desert and Martin Luther King.
